Classified Staff Induction Process: 2010-2011 School Year

Classified Induction Program

In 2005, St. Vrain Valley School District initiated a comprehensive induction program for new and transferred classified employees to assist their development of the knowledge and skills required in their jobs and support their successful assimilation into the culture of the organization. The classified Induction Program includes:

• Orientation to classified employment in the District that provides a consistent, inclusive, welcoming experience for each newly hired classified employee to the organization.

• Mentor program opportunities for newly hired classified employees or employees moving to new positions within the District to support meeting job expectations.

• Skill Block curricula and checklists aligned with District classified job descriptions to augment initial orientation activities and ensure competency and personal efficacy in an employee’s job performance by the end of their first year in a job.

The following guidelines are designed to provide new employees with the opportunity to develop competency and self-efficacy in the performance of their new job by the end of their first year in that position:

Phase I: Day 1 – 6 months Many of the training experiences, materials and tools needed by new classified employees may be similar for a variety of classified employee groups i.e.,

• Orientation/welcome to the organization/District

• Classified Employees’ Handbook: This document contains information about general personnel practices and procedures, information which is common to all classified employees in all departments throughout the school district. [A copy of this handbook is included in the Appendix.]

• Mentor assistance and training: a mentor will be assigned to each new classified employee to provide support, access to resources and on-the-job training as the employee becomes more familiar with their job responsibilities.

• District departmental orientation/training i.e., Human Relations Department employment processing; Finance Department payroll processing; etc.

• Skill Blocks training (see link below) provided by departments in areas appropriate to job performance needs and new employee experience.
  Ongoing contact and training with the new classified employee’s department or building colleagues and supervisor.

• Connect @ St. Vrain. This online support resource is sponsored by the SVVSD Classified Staff Professional Development   (CSPD) - 2010-2011 Team. Funds for this resource were provided by the Office of Professional Development and CSPD

• Connect @ St. Vrain is designed to offer new employees with a 24/7 online instructional resource for accessing SVVSD Internet, Intranet, Microsoft Outlook, Thin Client, and Professional Development resources. These resources enable employees to find and access information and communicate quickly and efficiently.

training experiences will continue with additional opportunities for job specific training through:

• Additional departmental skill block sessions as needed by the new employee;

• Ongoing mentor assistance and training as needed;

• Professional development classes (i.e., technology systems, CIMS, etc.) as needed by the new employee.
